March 2020

Next Meeting

Next meeting is on Wednesday 1 April 2020 at the new time of 4.00pm. We have not booked a speaker and the meeting will be open to general discussion. We have changed the time on our website text and the Events page. Suzanne has sent an article to the local newspapers and radio stations also indicating the change. BCNA have been informed so they will alter the details of our meetings on their website. At our meeting we will put the ladies to work to edit our brochures to reflect the change as well as the new telephone number for Jacinta Bryan, our Breast Care Nurse (her new number is 65151918).

Morning tea/coffee this month is Monday, 23 March 2020 at 10.00am at Country Palings Petals & Pots, Green Point - all welcome for a casual chat.

Last Meeting

First of all, thank you to Carol and Michelle for running the last meeting. Both Heather and Diane gave apologies as they were away holidaying (both retired now!). It is pleasing to see that the long term members have taken ownership of the Group and are very capable of "running the show". Everyone enjoyed our guest speaker last month - Lynda Titow from Clinink Cosmetic and Paramedical Tattooing. Lynda offered a discount to our ladies if they attend her Salon in Wallis Street, Forster.

Boob Bus

The Breast Screening Bus is back in town. However, the bus has relocated to Stockland Village. Apparently, Tuncurry Beach Bowling Club is about to start some renovations so they were unable to offer the bus the usual parking space outside their Club.

Bra Recycling

The Group has recently received a donation of library items, bras and prosthesis from a local lady whose daughter has passed away. So once again we will collect bras and prosthesis over the next two months for recycling. The Group has run these promotions about once a year for the last five years and donates the material to a contact in Robertson. This lady travels twice a year to Fiji where she conducts clinics (in conjunction with the local health authorities) for the Fijian native women. So bring along your recycled bras to the meetings. The bras do not have to be new or mastectomy bras, but large size cups of strong material are preferred.

New Surgeon

Dr Scarlett Shackleton is a new appointment as a general surgeon specialising in breast surgery to Forster Private Hospital. Dr Shackleton will be working from the Dolphin Suites Consulting Rooms. Many women will feel more comfortable being able to consult with a "female" regarding their breast surgery. We welcome Dr Shackleton to Forster and have no doubt she will be kept very busy.

All women who have experienced breast cancer are welcome to attend our meetings (first Wednesday every month at 6.30pm Tuncurry Bowling Club). For further information please contact: Janet McMahon 6554 9440, Heather Kelly 65553437 or Brenda Thomson, Breast Care Nurse on 65929724
