November 2020

NEXT MEETING - Wednesday 6.00pm - 2 December 2020

Our last meeting of the year will revert to 6.00pm on Wednesday, 2 December 2020 at the Tuncurry Beach Bowling Club Bistro for dinner. This is our Christmas dinner night. No meeting will be held just enjoying dinner together (at our own expense). Bookings have been made but remember to adhere to COVID restrictions and you must be a member of the Club. We look forward to seeing you there - all are welcome and you may be fortunate to win a lucky door prize!

Donations

Breast Friends have recently received donations from local community groups. It has been a pleasant surprise that groups were still able to organise "pink" fund raising events and donate the proceeds to us. We are very grateful to have received donations from: Forster Women's Bowling Club, Tuncurry Forster Sports Women's Bowling Club, Seaside Heritage Quilters and Forster Tuncurry Ladies Golf Club. Thank you to all those ladies who contributed to the events that raised these funds to donate to our Group.

Cancer Council

Cancer Council have introduced an online Breast Cancer Exercise Rehabilitation program that has been set up by an Occupational Therapist on the Central Coast. The following links have a video explaining the program. Foundation program and Foundation program + online community membership. It is a good time during COVID to assess this program as it can be done online and at home.

Library Resources

As mentioned in our September Newsletter, the library resources at Forster Private Hospital, Oncology Unit are once again freely available to all interested parties. One of our ladies kindly brought along to our last meeting her stock of breast cancer related reading material to donate to the library. These items have been added to the Library List on our website and to the bookshelf at Oncology. If you have any relevant booklets to donate, please contact Jeni Harris on 0414289685 and she will arrange for them to be included in our resources.

Oncology nurses with Spot Monitoring Exergen Temperature monitoring Stations

Forster Private Hospital - Oncology Unit

These lovely ladies are three of the Oncology Nurses, Lynda, Lisa and Jo at Forster posing with the two new "obs units" now in use. You may recall in our May Newsletter we advised that "Breast Friends" had donated the funds to purchase these two Spot Monitoring Exergen Temperature Monitoring Stations for our local Oncology Unit. Both units feature a plaque on the side to indicate the donation was made by our Group. These units benefit all cancer patients in the Forster area who require treatment at Oncology.

All women who have experienced breast cancer are welcome to attend our meetings (first Wednesday every month at 6.30pm Tuncurry Bowling Club). For further information please contact: Janet McMahon 6554 9440, Heather Kelly 65553437 or Brenda Thomson, Breast Care Nurse on 65929724
