Last Meeting
We had the pleasure of Dr Syapiq Long our new Oncologist based at Manning Base Hospital as our Guest Speaker, Dr Long who prefers to be known as Syapiq has been working as a full time Oncology Doctor in Taree since the end of last year. Syapiq spoke to the group about his previous work in research. He covered the history and development of Clinical Trials and the guidelines that researchers have to follow. He also explained the steps required for a new treatment to be released to the public, saying this can take up to 10 years sometimes. He felt very positive that the advancements in new treatments are improving, not only the survival of people with cancer but the quality of life during and after treatment is moving in the right direction. He wanted to assure the group that if you are eligible for any trials, the process is very thorough, you can be assured you will be looked after well and your participation is very valuable for the research. We would like to thank Syapiq for his time and very interesting talk.
Anna advised the meeting that Forster now has a new visiting specialist breast surgeon from Newcastle, Dr. Owen Morris. He is an Oncoplastic Breast Surgeon, General Surgeon and Endoscopist.
