Breast Cancer Support Group

Newsletter

Bruce Hopper Genetic Counsellor joined us, Bruce updated the group on the new thinking behind genetic testing and the direction he feels the testing is heading in. He did say because of the demands and the lack of staff he is very snowed under, but is excited about the advancements in this field. The ladies once again enjoyed chatting with Bruce, finding his talk very interesting.

In the past month our group has been very visible in the community, we would like to thank Jan Catling for organising a table for the group at the recent Age Services Expo. This event provided an opportunity to get the word out to our community about our role in the Great Lakes. There were many service providers at this event who were very interested in our work. Since the Expo we have had several phone calls from people wanting to attend one of our meetings next year as Guest Speakers. Big thank you to all the ladies that represented our group on the day.

Judy Smith, Jennie P. and Lorraine attended the Pink Up Forster event on behalf of our group, on the night Lorraine spoke of her journey and about our groups role in the area. This event was a fund raiser with proceeds  from the night going to  the McGrath Foundation.

The group has also been invited to attend a Breast Cancer event in John Wright Park on 24thOctober 9.30am -11.30am organised by Sunrise Care Home. There is going to be a sausage sizzle, trust and treasure and music entertainment, our group will have a table displaying our Care packs and group information. If you are able to attend, please join us there in your Pink “Breast Friends” shirts.

Our Guest Speaker for our November meeting will be Jillian Hull Occupational Therapist who specialises in helping clients with their Lymphoedema,  we look forward to Jillian joining us.
